Five universities will connect researchers with commercial training, investors and industry

Quantum programme targets research commercialisation

Quantum researchers across the UK are to receive commercialisation support through the UK Quantum SuperConnector, according to a launch announcement from Imperial College London. Imperial leads the consortium with Bristol, Cambridge, Glasgow and Oxford universities.

Funded by UK Research and Innovation through its Quantum IS8 programme, the initiative will deliver a national skills centre accessible to researchers nationwide. Planned accelerators, masterclasses and connections with investors and end-users aim to test demand and develop routes to adoption. Commercial outcomes remain prospective.

Why this matters for policymakers

  • Accountability Our analysis: evaluation should track licensing, ventures and adoption, not training participation alone.
  • Regional access Our analysis: nationwide eligibility warrants monitoring participation beyond the founding universities.
  • Market demand Our analysis: end-user involvement could help distinguish viable applications from technical promise.
