British Society of Soil Science Launches Annual Report 2025
The British Society of Soil Science (BSSS) has published its 2025 Annual Report, outlining the organisation’s achievements, strategic priorities, and growing impact across the soil science community. The report highlights progress against seven key strategic objectives, including promoting soil science education, supporting professional standards, advancing knowledge exchange, and inspiring future generations of soil scientists.
The publication includes updates on major initiatives such as the Society’s Annual Conference, Early Careers Conference, professional training programmes, and scientific journals. It also features case studies demonstrating the practical and societal importance of soil science in addressing environmental and agricultural challenges.
The report opens with a foreword from the Society’s new Patron, broadcaster and environmental advocate Kate Humble, alongside introductions from President Professor Paul Hallett and Executive Director Andy Morris.
BSSS reports record membership growth, reaching 982 members by the end of 2025, reflecting increased engagement from researchers, practitioners, students, and supporters. The Society credits its continued success to the contributions of members, volunteers, sponsors, and partners.
Looking ahead to 2026, BSSS aims to continue elevating the profile of soil science while supporting sustainable land management, environmental resilience, and public awareness of the vital role soils play in society.
